How to sew elastic seams

To make garments with stretch fabrics, you need your seams to be able to stretch with the fabric. You can’t normally use a straight stitch on a standard sewing machine as the seams will pop out as the fabric stretches. With the Maraflex thread from Gutermann though, that’s not a problem!

Maraflex elastic sewing thread has up to 80% stretch and creates elastic seams, even when using a standard straight stitch. Use it in both your top thread and your bobbin and sew with low tension - the best seam elasticity is achieved with four stitches per centimetre.
