Most people know their HSA covers prescriptions and lab work. Far fewer realize it could cover a squat rack.
Home gym equipment is one of the most overlooked categories in HSA/FSA spending. Treadmills, rowers, strength systems, recovery tools. Many may be eligible for purchase with pre-tax health dollars through Truemed when tied to a documented health need. And because you're spending pre-tax dollars you've already set aside, the real cost can land well below the sticker price, depending on your tax bracket.
Most people assume only a gym membership can qualify. The equipment itself often can too.

Connected systems like Tonal bring serious resistance training home, using digital weight to replace a full cable machine. Prefer free weights? Power racks, barbells, and dumbbells from Rogue Fitness and Major Fitness are available through Truemed too. All may be eligible with an approval letter.

Peloton remains the benchmark for connected cardio, but rowers (Hydrow, Ergatta) and walking pads (like the Deer Run model featured in our CX section below) have built real followings. Rowing especially gets recommended for its full-body, low-impact profile.

Recovery tools have gone mainstream. Percussion massagers from Ekrin Athletics, infrared saunas from Sun Home Saunas, and sauna blankets from HigherDOSE are all on Truemed and the health tie-in here is one of the most intuitive of any category.

The last piece is knowing whether it's working. Garmin watches, WHOOP bands, and Levels glucose monitors turn daily habits into measurable data. You don't have to pick just one. A full setup of strength, cardio, recovery, and tracking could be covered through Truemed. Approved funds work across any participating merchant. The best time to build is when the money is already sitting in your account.

What's in Matt's health stack?
We caught up with Matt, CEO of FORM to hear what's in his health stack. Here's what he told us.

Matt structures his day around training and recovery. Most mornings start before 6:30 with a green-tea pre-workout, 20 minutes of core and mobility work, then a 60–90 minute swim, run, or bike — with strength training twice a week. Recovery is just as deliberate: a post-workout stretch, a protein-and-creatine shake, and a supplement routine built around NAD+ support, vitamin D3+K2, and omega-3s.
What stands out is how much of his routine is measured. He trains with FORM goggles, a Garmin watch, and a Wahoo Kickr, tracks everything through TrainingPeaks and Strava, monitors sleep and recovery with an Oura ring, and runs bloodwork twice a year. Dinner is Mediterranean, and he winds down with a Kindle before a 10:30 lights-out.
His parting thought:
"The biggest unlock in performance is shortening the gap between what you do and what you see. Real-time feedback changes how you train — and ultimately how you improve."
